Miata Project - From a young gun

Hi guys, I guess this is my first post. :D

Anyway here I go... I bought my Miata at around the end of May. I've been working part time since I turned 14 to get it. I've now been 16 for a while. In about 4 1/2 months I'll FINALLY be able to drive it.

I bought a 1996 MX-5 with the Popular Equipment Package. It has 80 000 miles(Imported from the US), and it has never been winter driven. The previous owner gave me all the oil change receipts since he brought it up from the Southern US. He changed the oil every 1500-2000miles.

Since I purchased it I replaced the soft top, paitned/cleaned everything, and did a few thing here and there. My next project is a good sound system, aswell as finishing it's permanent home.

In a year or so I'd like to get a supercharger kit, but I'm not sure yet. Her are some pictures of my baby.

The day I got it:

Nice Miata!

How was your experience with the import process? Perhaps you could do a write up on how you went about it.

Welcome to here. That's a clean car.

Oh sorry, I didn't actually import it.

The man I bought it from imported it a few years ago. And since then he had it in winter storage, kept all his receipt for oil changes, parts ect. He actually brought two up Miatas from US. One for him and one for his wife.

You could tell he loved his car, and he was sad to see it go. Which is the best person to buy a car from. :p

cool stuff. Are you planning to paint your pads every time you replace them? or was that just a test to see if you liked it?

Leave the boy alone. I bet he is running EBC RedStuff pads. They come that way.

It was a serious question and I did not consider that. :bang:

They were kinda rusty so I just gave them a quick spray. I probably won't bother do it when I buy new ones.

But who know. :D

I thought you were messing with him. I knew it was a spray job otherwise the caliper wouldn't be the same color. :)

I really don't know much about it since I haven't driven it outside of the yard yet. It's killing me! Atleast it looks nice.

@RedTurbo
I'm always the young guy on the forums no matter what type. Most of the time I'm on Battlefield related forums. I've gotten used to it.

And about the car, I hope to make it more "my own" after next summer. Between buying the car, paying taxes and needing money for other things to get the car going (insurence, plates, ect.) I have almost no money left. Can't wait to get some more work so I can make the car the way I want it. Also I'd like to maybe get some track days. My local track has days for the public to come drive.

if you got xbl and forza check out the spec racing.

That price could get you another msm if you searched hard enough.

I used to do Spec Miata on GT5. No xbl though.

And the valve cover was done with a fine wire brush, then sanded and polished the lettering. It looks alot better in person.

I finally installed my stereo equipment. It's not done yet, I still have to clean up and put the wires where I want them. It's all hooked up and working however. As well one of the previous owners must have had an amp or two in the trunk so there are alot of extra wires I'll have to get rid of next weekend, which you will be able to see in the picture of the amp. It's all good for now though.

Alpine CDA-117

JVC KSAX4302 600watt amp

This combination really is great, and I'm impressed how good the somewhat cheap JVC amp is. The sound is so clear and so loud. I just have to watch myself with the volume my ears are already in pain.

ps. I get my fulls in just ander 2 months, I'm so excited.

flying_solo 02-20-2012 03:01 PM

The amp just floats there?

No that was just a quick picture.

I cleaned up all the wires and put the amp where it is staying and screwed it down today. It looks 10x better now.

flying_solo 02-20-2012 04:19 PM

haha, OK. Just making sure. You can't drive fast when your tunes are at risk of flying out of the car.

I know eh. It took alot of time to fix the mess one of the previous owners made of the wiring.

Between the stereo gear and aftermarket alarm there was alot of wires I didn't want. Just got a chance to clean up the last little bit today. I may take another quick picture tomorrow.

lol, they dont roll that much, i have an amp similar to it and a single 8 in a box loose in the trunk of mine.

flying_solo 02-21-2012 09:07 AM

Red, you aren't driving hard enough.

Track 02-21-2012 09:07 AM

Lol, I don't think that's the problem. The top cover or the car cover keep it from rolling to much. But slamming it trough corners you can hear it roll a bit

ZippyMX-5 04-05-2012 05:44 AM

Finally drove the Miata yesterday after over a year of waiting. There are a few things I want to change but overall it was amazing. Most fun car I've ever driven hands down. I still have a smile on my face.

Just be careful man, they can destabilize quickly. Ask me how I know

flying_solo 04-05-2012 08:39 AM
