saedrin's turbo NB
#11
Got some more work done today, lots of little stuff I needed to take care of.
Re-welded coolant pipe tab behind the turbo, now this thing actually stays in place, and at least doesn't leak coolant anymore. (at least while the car is off..)
BOV in position, we'll see how I manage to pull off the air return..
Stupid MSM intake temp sensor hole is where I want to source boost only for the BOV's Port C, clearly I cannot find the right connector for this. (you try finding a m8x1.25 to 1/8" hose barb, I dare you)
Boost controller ready to control the raging torrent of power from my tiny turbo.
AHA. I found a plastic thing that nearly fits, came with the BOV. So I carefully covered the threads with sealant and screwed it in. Think we'll be good here until I can figure out something more legitimate.
Yay fitment problems. Corksport made the FMIC piping about 3" too long. Awesome.
Nothing a little hacksaw can't fix!
'Ah' you'll say, 'the coupler has no lip to grab on to anymore!'. Feast your eyes on some JDM as ---- JB weld beads, I'd take better pictures but I don't want anyone copying this lost art.
Stupid headlights. I'm going to rock the pirate look for a while I think.
At least the FMIC piping looks good, and actually fits after I remove all of the stupid MSM-specific brackets with a sawzall.
FMIC piping fixed and in position, mailed a dead horse's head to corksport for the trouble. (actually that sounds like a solid idea..)
So slowly getting there. Probably be ready to go on monday as I need to wait on a few small hoses and ---- to finally ship.

Flashing the XEDE with my crappy trendnet USB-serial converter.
Uploadingggggggggg
Burningggggggggg
Yay, Lowes had metric bolts.
Rear O2 sensors are for bitches, wrapped up tight and will sit there for another 2-3 years until I need it again.
New oil filter, which is a bitch to put on with the engine in actually. Probably about time, as the last one had like 20k on it. :|
Battery with my awesome tie-down method.
Waiting for another 2.25" coupler for the FMIC, BOV tubing, and that should be it. Minus the new headlights of course, but those aren't necessary to test this out.

So it's been a while since my last update. Most of that time was fixing little issues and generally waiting on the funds to purchase some needed parts.
Where I left off:
As the car sits today:
Today my new set of Deatsch Werks 440cc PnP Injectors arrived, so I just had to tear into the car again.
Love the attention to detail with these injectors, who actually flow benches every single brand new injector anymore?
Latency value might be more important to someone with a full EMS, still nice that they include this information.
Stock pink-top NB injectors (205cc?) vs. Deatsch Werks 440cc
The man who designed this fuel rail needs to be shot in the face. Repeatedly. I just love taking my intake manifold apart to access this stuff...
New seals..
So I uploaded my map to the XEDE, changed my scaling to .943 (thanks to Stephanie @ Begi), and promptly went for a drive. With boost set around 10psi the power is absolutely ridiculous compared to before. I cannot believe how I drove a miata without a turbo for 6 years. Also installed a 323 GTX PCV valve, though I still need an adequate PCV hose to actually use the thing.
Still on the list to fix is the stupid airbag warning light (the airbag is most certainly attached), heater hose replacement and thermal wrap (pinhole leak), and fix a misfiring issue I've been having. Betting this is the coil pack or wires as the plugs are brand new and haven't solved the issue.

Replaced the heater hoses today, the rear hose that goes around to the back of the block is a serious bitch to replace. Getting a pair of pliers or vice grips back there to remove the clamp requires patience (of which I have none) or tiny hands (nope), so I settled for copious amounts of swearing and general rage while mauling the hell out of my hands to remove it.
Buttoned back up the intake side. Still need a vacuum cap for the intake pipe instead of duct tape.
323GTX PCV Valve
Kinked oil drain line. Going to try a PVC pipe wrapped around that bend to keep it flowing well tomorrow.
Bad Cam Position Sensor is causing me random misfires during cruise once the car is warmed up. Have this on order from finishline.
Random picture of my Defi sending unit.
STILL having airbag issues. When I connect the airbag to this connector it's still giving me a 6-flash warning on the dash. I don't know what this means. :?

New Cam Position Sensor.
Location of Cam Position Sensor.
New plugs, BKR7E's should be more than enough plug for this car.
New PCV line.
Check out the damage done to my Synchronic BOV, set screw ripped out under boost and is nowhere to be found...
So until I can get a new pair of set screws for this thing I'm going to run a little ghetto.

New wheel, OMP Corsica with finishline performance's hub.
New set screws for the BOV, extended length and RTV secured.
Wideband installation.
Un-kinked oil drain. (hey, it works)
Trying to find a .75" vacuum cap for this is IMPOSSIBLE. Any ideas? I have a plug to try next..

Way overdue update.
Car has been 100% reliable since the turbo install. I beat the ---- out of it daily and it doesn't care. Still get 30mpg on the highway too.
Anyways, a couple months ago I installed this:
And today these arrived:
Waiting for some RS-3's to ship and then I'll be in summer mode.

Another quick update.
Picked up a set of Toyo R888 225-45-R15's for the 6UL's today.
Also a quick cell picture of what life is like on the highway with a 4.3 and a 6 speed...
And what I drive when I need more room than the miata can provide..
