Wastegate actuator that came with the turbo was stronger than where I wanted to be right now so I was running with it cracked open. My arbitrary self-imposed limit is 10psi. It was supposed to be a 14psi actuator and behaves like it would take me there if I let it. I went on ebay and bought a 7psi one that wants to spike to 11 or so initially on spool up and then settle at ~7. So I still had to add a helper spring to keep it from going over 10 on spool up and now it settles about 6psi.

I then added my GReddy Profec B type S electronic boost controller to try to add some controllability to the system. Using the gain and boost adjustments I am able to hold the actuator closed to the set pressure on spool up which makes it more crisp, and then to hold the pressure up after the initial spike so that it maintains my target boost instead of dropping off.

And my new rubber shifter boot arrived from Rosenthal. No more warm console for me.

I ordered a Chinese oil filter sandwich plate on ebay. It will allow me to use the 2nd gen RX7 oil cooler I got from a friend. The RX7 coolers have built in thermostats to prevent over-cooling and are double pass design for more cooling. They also appear to be able to handle pretty high volume with low restriction. One less thing to worry about as summer heats up.

Well, I mounted my oil cooler and sandwich plate. I had hoses made at the local hydraulic shop. The sandwich adapter required removal and "clearancing" of part of the intake manifold support arm or the oil filter would not fit back on it. Sawzall and drill made quick work of it.

I was not able to use the RX7 oil cooler this time. It wouldn't fit with the layout of current components (A/C dryer) unless perhaps I removed the front bumper cover and sub-assembly and mounted it horizontally above the mouth opening, which I was not prepared to do that day. I instead utilized an engine oil cooler lifted from a 1974 Lotus 907 engine (2 liter, all aluminum, DOHC, 8000rpm) found originally in the bumper mouth of a '74 Jensen Healey. It is roughly 10"x6"x2" and is a non-thermostatic controlled, high flow unit. My oil pressure appears to have dropped by about 10psi at cruise due to the added restriction of the sandwich and the internal friction of the lines and cooler. I don't blame the cooler so much as the length of the lines probably.

The cooler is mounted horizontally (a la Hustler's setup) in the aforementioned location above the mouth opening. In the heat of a Florida afternoon with the A/C running, you can put a hand up into the mouth opening and feel the substantial draw of hot air through the cooler element just from the radiator fans. It is definitely getting good air.

Pics will be taken at some point. I was rushing because I have a track day Saturday at Homestead Miami Speedway. Do to some infield construction, we are utilizing the Grand Am course and running the high banks of NASCAR's turn three and four instead of going through the slow part inside the infield on that end. Should be really friggin' fast when you get to the start/finish line. I'm excited! I hope I don't hit the wall, lol. The configuration looks like this map:

I have studied a former instructor of mine's videos running that track configuration and he was only able to hold ~120mph in the high banked corners in a Boxster with wide slicks and a much more well developed chassis and suspension. You know the guy. I'd be lucky to probably hold 100 mph without wadding the little car up in a ball.

Haha, I haven't taken any pics of the oil cooler location yet. Been too busy preparing for the trackday tomorrow.

I did find a Jensen Healey engine compartment pic in which you can see the big hoses going to the oil cooler in it's native habitat.

Just watched the Rolex and Continental challenge last week, did you run the same road course? It rained like a crazy SOB for the ROLEX.

I was thinking of doing my oil cooler horizontal instead of vertical like that. I should get an oil pressure gauge before I do it so I can gauge the pressure differential like you did.
