two ports? other than the ones for the oil cooler? So you are running the temp off the sandwhich plate too (and I guess one for the turbo?)?

No, I'm using the port on the side of the block for turbo feed, dont think you have that port...

Ones blocked off, ones for oil temp. I had the drain plug drilled and tapped, and it's honestly a better location for a read if you ask me, but dealing with wiring down there is a pain, no clean way to mount it. And it's a pain during oil changes.

I have the room on my plate since it doesn't have a thermostat.

No, I don't. I think thats on 94/95 blocks and earlier.

Anyways, so I think I am going to stick with the mocal plate, I can't seem to find anything equivalent for cheaper and buying an oil cooler thermostat is pretty expensive, doesn't justify the trouble.

I think I will bite on the 24 row tru-cool, its much cheaper than the setrab and honestly, I think the tru-cool will do just fine now and when the turbo comes later.

Thanks for the suggestion Josh, I will just have to spend some time reading about the temperature sensors available.

---- thermostats, my car is about to be a track car only. I am going to find a cheaper sandwich plate.

I just realized, I need to get new tires and pay for my feb. track day. Plus, if it overcools the oil, I can just block off part of the cooler. doh!!

were you ever in the scenario in which you had to dd the ride, track it, and drive it home? and if yes, have you ever had to tow back at all? if so how many times T_T

I don't have a thermostat, works fine for me. You're welcome for saving you $150 between sandwich plates and oil coolers. And you're getting a bigger one.

here:

That's pretty much mine, although it's aluminum. The plugs are crap, use real NPT plugs, not those bolts with shitty gaskets. They should be less than $1 at a hardware store, or put something there like your sensor. I forget if the threads were any good or if I had to chase them with a NPT tap. I think they're NPT with a straight bolt. mega lame.

Edit: Ah yes, they're NPT. Dunno what's up with the -10. Mine came with lines and a cooler, which were all crap. The fittings leaked, the cooler leaked, and the fittings weren't even -AN, they were some random angle. So I replaced mine, same NPT threads with a -8 on the end. See if you can find one on Ebay that lists specifically -8an, or you'll have to buy -8AN-1/2NPT adapters.

my car is my dd right now. I only have the miata and I drive it as you see in the pictures to work everyday. I drive to the track, drive the sessions, then pack everything back up and put it in the car and drive home.

I have yet to have it break down on me at the track, which I am thankful for! Towing it back from the track would be expensive. Not sure what those flatbeds charge for towing in those cases, but I can't imagine its any less then $300-500. If you are lucky, you would find someone to tow you back on their trailer or something.

Thats why I want to get a tow vehicle.

I do the same. Only issue I had was a blown up diff. Find a friend with a truck and become better friends with him. Than it's only a dolly rental away from getting it home, mine sat in the track's parking lot over night when the diff blew. Much cheaper than a flat bed.

I appreciate you knockin some sense into me. I was sitting there looking at the $343 price tag for it and being like, why the ---- is this so expensive.

It is interesting how the tru-cool is the same size as another cooler thats half the rows, but rows aren't a unit measurement now are they? hehe.
