Lets talk Engine Swaps

So lets talk about what kind of motor you would like to see swapped into a miata.
i was driving a 03 Mitsubishi Eclipse GTS the other day and i like the motor in it, it makes a fair amount of torque with plenty of power in the stock form and easily mod-able.

PS: this is more of a just for grins thread

I'm not down with the Mitsu engine. It's a 6 cylinder, and it's sideways cause it's setup for wrong wheel drive.
I would adapt a K24 Honda engine with a K20 head to a 6 speed transmission that a F20c (S2000) uses, and put that in a Miata.
It's lighter than a Miata engine, you can tune with the stock ECU, many available aftermarket parts, good N/A power...everything a natural aspirated Miata would dream of. You could still turbo it of course, and then the potential would be even greater.
Forget heavy old school 5.0 ford motors, forget rotaries, forget inline 6's like a 2JZ. The Honda motor has it all.
That's my 2 cents.

I learned many years ago not to rule out or discredit those old heavy 5 liters. They've got lots more potential than people give them credit for.

-KA24de

6 banger swaps:
-Mercedes OM606
-Toyota 1FZ w/ AWD
-BMW M20 325e block/325is head- 2.7 monster
-Typhoon V6 w/ AWD :D
-KL-ZE because you can make these noises

2.3L Ford SVO worked over

I knew there was something redeeming about ya Red!
'Fourced' was/is a member of Turboford.org. Good to see he got that thing running! It's beastly.

This is Jon Huber's machine. Motorsport block, Esslinger head, big honkin' turbo, I forget which engine management.
The only problem I would have putting a 2.3T into a Miata is that they're heavy. Weigh almost as much as a stock 5 liter.
Headgasket retention is quite a pain too. Well, at least at thirty pounds or so it is!
Turboford.org is (or used to be, it's been awhile for me) the place for 2.3 or any turbo info.
Some of the guys there are nutz.

2.0 TDI with all the emissions crap removed and a bigger turbyo for 500,000 mpg AND good power engine management TBD.
Tim's V6 KLDE intrigues me as well
Instead of doing a S2K swap it seems more cost effective to buy an S2k.

I really loved my 2.5 V6 out of my '94 saab 900. Again a pointless suggestion since it's a FWD engine, but if we're discussing dreams about affordable engines...

It was 170hp/167ft/lbs, 54*. Great power curve. Tire chirping torque off idle if you weren't careful, easy around town, hit like a turbo at 3500ish rpm, and pulled strong to redline. Fun little car. I'll suggest it to anyone who wants a cheap used car too, a lot of luxury for $3000.
