I don't think it should either. I was going to check mine but the wife took off init this morning.
I would say something is either wired wrong or something has been add to the wiring system
or it is running hot or thinks it is hot and turning the fans on

Im going to check all the sender connections and try and trace as much wiring back as I can, I pulled apart the diagnostic box and nothing looks out of place

When can I find some ecu pin out diagrams for a 97 1.8 Eunos?

Sam,
I just noticed you are in the UK the fans may work different on your car than USA cars.
don't go ripping and tearing I would think it would be something easy to see if there is a rewire. Just a long shot but look at the fans and make sure they are not tied together, Look for some sort of a contactor/switch that has been installed or looks out of place.

Do you have another problem that you need the ecu pin out for ?
Question have you replaced the ecu with another one if so hold the wagons. You may have installed one that will not work on your 97
96 is different and 99 maybe as well
Resolve one problem at a time

Id like the pin out so I can check the continuity on the pins.

Ive not had the car too long so the history of it is fairly unknown.

I will have a good look round tomorrow (Midnight here)

Sam I would not bother doing anything with the ecu at this point .You could short it out and then be in more trouble
Look on the ecu and get all the numbers you can off of it and then do a google search and make sure it is the correct ecu
do some more searches on the fan problem amd see if you can find some help .There should be someone in here that can give you a definite answer on the fans

well no luck tracing any wires, all the plugs for the fans look intact, can find no frayed wires or any splicing out of place... frustrating...

Ive tried setting it with the fans running and have also unplugged the fans the idle will change to some extent but its still idling over 1k...

Going to try cleaning out the idle valve see if that helps at all.

this issue is still present and has gotten considerably worse as of late.

My fuel consumption has gone out the window, maybe 200 km's to this current full tank of fuel!!

We have a hunch it is staying in the cold enrichment stage causing the fuel usage, I have fitted a new sender but the problem remains.

My idle is currently sat doing this

showing these fault codes (you can hear the fans running)
