Thanks for the info on the main gauge bulbs. The service manual only says 3.4w bulbs. Finding that the bulb is a 194 was tough.

Ok so the problem I have is someone took out several of the small sockets that are in the console. Moving to California the smog people will not allow a pass without every light working. I have been looking here and cannot find a post for the sockets anywhere. Can these be replace or is there some workaround that will allow me to put lights on with missing sockets. Conversion to LEDs would be nice but not practical without sockets to put them into. Thanks

I'd check the "Jim Ellis Mazda" web site for detailed parts lists to get a part number, and then order the sockets from either Jim Ellis, or from a used parts supplier like Panic Motorsports. Of course, you could simply go to your local Mazda dealer :ohnoes: and have them look up the part and supply it. Use a little care, the sockets might vary with model year.


I suspect that there are several socket styles for different uses, so I doubt that SuperBrightLEDs will carry the sockets.


The other option, as mentioned in the thread would be to solder wires directly to the LED's and then using silicone caulk place them in the cluster. My strong preference would NOT be to do that. It's too permenant, and making a proper connection at the other end of the new wires would be challenging.


Of course, the best option would be to leave California!!!! <Smile>

An unfortunate consequence of life is someTime you have live with evil until you can change, the day after I retire I will move anywhere but here. On the sockets from bright LEDs they appear to be wired which will not work with the back of the console. I thought I would just try to solder the bulbs in but the plastic the copper traces are attached to would melt first. Not sure where Jim Ellis Mazda is, there is no local shop within 100 mile. Oh the benefits of working for the government in the middle of noplace. Will gogle Jim Ellis as that sound like the best option. thanks for the advice. I only paid $300 for this car and rebuilt it while on travel, racing cam and clutch it is fast from zero to 70 then it will hold its own, nothing like riding around town at dinner time with the top down, smelling BBQ and critters.

Sockets I'm not sure which one would be best for you. Try comparing these to a similar one that you do have.


Jim Ellis is a Mazda dealer in the south. They've put the entire parts catalog, with part numbers and drawings online for the Miata, among other cars.

I did order the sockets JKL 2929, they were very close to the correct ones I could not twist them all the way as the contacts would be over plastic and not the traces. State of California is happy yup lights come on yup lights go off and it only cost me $30 bucks to satisfy Satan!:cool:
