The input shaft is a two piece part that is connected by a spring that allows it to twist to activate the power steering assist. Welding the input shaft makes it a solid piece so that there is no play in the steering wheel.

wow this is awesome. Also i didnt know the mazdaspeed had a different ratio .


i need to remember to frequent this forum more often.

Its not different, its just limited in turns lock to lock to stop it from rubbing with the 17" wheels.

all we get is 18:1 on the manual and 15:1 on the power.

how did you get the shaft out of the housing, when i try to remove the shaft it only moves so far then stops it wont come completely out

You have to pull the shaft out from the passenger side of the rack. This means that the driver side tie rod must be removed, the input shaft and tensioner must be removed and the passenger side housing end cap must be removed.
