I would at the very least put a screen or mesh over the opening .With the car running you could easily ruin a hand with the blink of an eye,or at the least someone else
It does look neat but with that uncovered like it is the liabilty that goes with it is huge.
A neighbor somebodies kid ,for that matter even a thief steal the car and it come back to haunt you. I don't argue a thief deserves it but you don't deserve the lw suit even if you win.
They do not always reattach fingers and hands and if they do it does not mean they will function again
Our son just lost a hand and three fingers on the other one. It has been a long recovery

Many cars come from the factory with open cam gears. I don't think a lawsuit from a car thief or the neighbors kid is something to be concerned of or even realistic. They could just as easily get their hands stuck in any one of the other rotating parts in the engine bay.

Makes me think about the big metal belt driven radiator fan on the older cars. Those things are definitely dangerous.

I agree that there are other areas that can be as bad, most of those places have reminders and warnings..You also expect them to be there
A modification though is competely different
I do realize that a thief or a kid getting hurt is unlikely but not unheard of.
All a thief has to prove is it was unsafe, been through that already never in my wildest dreams would have thought he would win. It is kind of like you driving down the highway with bad tires and have a blow out and hit someone, you did not intend to hurt anyone but you did. You knew it was a danger to drive with the tires on the car

Yep and those big ole metal direct drive fans took a many of finger and damaged a lot of hands ,that s why they started putting warnings were from people getting hurt
Prior to 1973 you never saw a warning on a hammer for striking them aganist each other or hitting a metal object, as they may break,1973 they started putting that on all hammers to stop a lawsuit.
