Default Idea for DIY project... Power distribution center for gauges?

Maybe I am just biting off more than I can chew, but I was thinking today about how nice it would be to have a cleaner way of providing power to my gauges.

Has anyone ever built or seen a power distribution box that can provide power and ground for say, 5 gauges (or other low power devices) and has its own fuse? I am thinking that the wires for each gauge or device should go into the side of the box and a screw would clamp down on the wire. We could even put on the board a power supply for USB and you could hide the jack somewhere like inside the center armrest or somewhere on the dash for a GPS.

Am I just over thinking this, or would this be a cool project to design and make open source?

I can't imagine it would be too hard.

The wires would plug into something like this, but it should be a version that protrudes through a cut out in the protective case. I will try and find a better example but for now this is the general idea... http://www.digikey.com/product-detai...951-ND/2638871

You know, sometimes knowing what to call something is half the solution to a problem.

That would work. Not as cool or DIY, but it will save a lot of effort. Thanks.
