NASA-SE HPDE event...If you are interested, I don't think its full. I am about to book a hotel at:
Comfort Inn Oakwood

Apparently its 5 miles from the track, which sounds good to me. Normally I would camp, but I am bringing a lady friend and shes not a big camper... Atleast I camp for Petite LeMans every year.

Look into Tarheel Sports Car Club, I am active with them. We meet once a month, about 30-40 of the members, but there is a ton more of them around really. There is one rallycross and autocross a month (sometimes they have two events per weekend, especially for charity events). They also run about 6 track days a year.

How are they towards younger guys? I'm a pretty young guy and I've been hesitant about clubs because of the stereotype I get a lot.

I am 23. I don't think they care, there is a couple of guys who autocross and they are still in college, so no more than 21. I would also say you will get by fine if you just listen and come out prepared (if you are going to the track). I can help you with that part if you like. Lastly, I would shy away from sounding like a show-off...even if your car is as nice as Doppel's.

With that said, I was the youngest guy in my run group and class. There were a few others in the mid 20s though in blue group. There was quiet a few guys in there 30s & 40s all around. Next event is in September, so you got a while to prepare, but it will be EPIC! 3-days of full VIR!

My car is pretty much stock, so not much to brag about. I'll look in to it though! I've been itching to go to VIR, wanted to this summer but the timing just wasn't right.

If I had the money, I'd be out there. I'll pobably still come up and take some pics and talk to peeps though since I have no plans for the weekend. Are you running or instructing?

Personally, I'd stay over by the Mall of Georgia/Buford/Hwy-20 area....Oakwood is a little ghetto and you'll probably end up spending evenings down there anyway. Stay away from wondering to Gainesville too.....you'll pick up some kinda disease.

haha, far from instructing! I am in the novice group, but lets just say I am ambitious and hopefully learn quickly.

I already booked the hotel, so I can't change it now unfortunately. Although I am trying to figure something out for Saturday afternoon. Preferably close to good food and beer. Let me know if you come out, I would love to meet up. Maybe we can do a couple of shots of our cars together. My paint could use some work, but I think it would be great anyway.

Need to get the funds put aside for the next track day near by.

I am just at about 5 hours max. I wouldn't mind going farther though if we could get a track MEET!

From Boston to Watkins Glen is just a little over 8 hours (provided decent weather and no construction ).
Longer if it rains and I'm hauling a tire trailer, and, I'm on DOT slicks.

Why do you drive TO the track on slicks?... (let me answer that) BECAUSE RACE CAR.

Alik 08-03-2011 07:34 AM

Well, not slicks, but, shaved RA1s.
And, when you're so exhausted that you can barely see straight, and, you already gave up the last HPDE session, you throw your ---- in the lockbox, make sure that your helmet is somewhere in the car, and, get into the stupidest mindset known to man "I gotta get there".
Occasional torrential downpour on the way back to Boston is just icing on the cake.

(Although my cats were a little perturbed when they saw the expression on my face as I walked in the house. The "why the ---- did I do that" expression)
