Default Changing Out Thermostat/Housing

Silly question but am I supposed to use a sealant on the thermostat gasket when changing it out along with a new thermostat?

Just replaced the thermostat, thermostat housing, thermostat cover, thermostat temp sensor and thermostat gasket.
Tightened it all back down...still leaks out the back of the thermostat.

Housing didn't come with new bolts so I matched them up at Home depot.
I don't want to crank down too hard and crack another thermo cover.

Either needs correct oem bolts or sealant. Maybe both?

help.
thanks.

Ive seen other people talking about not using a sealant or not necessary, so I am assuming you gotta use a sealant.

Make sure the thermostat is not hanging up above the recess and that the gasket is on the side away from the recess, then smear the gasket lightly on both sides with sealant and you should be good to go.

Thanks Bruce. It confused me because Mr. Mishimoto on youtube didn't use any sealant at all.
