Default Air Deflector on 2002 MX5

There is a foldable panel that runs along the back of the MX5 seats. I believe this is some sort of air deflector???? What is this suppose to do?

yep, its a "Windblocker" of sorts. Never really made a significant difference to me, but that's its intended use.

it blocks the wind quite a bit for short people but not for me.

OK. "Compact" it is. I am new to my 10 year old car and these design features have peaked my interest. This little foldable wind deflector must of made some sense to someone. BTW I really like this car and am actually looking forward to any maintenance tasks. Not trying to by trouble, but the car seems to be laid out in a mechanic friendly fashion. We will see. At any rate my questions to the forum are just test to see the community out there. My winter car will be my 2002 Tacoma, so I kinda diggin the constrast.....

Default I figured out the purpose of the air deflector

OK, I guess I am really smart or completely delusional.

After observing the wind action on the snap on convertible top cover, I think the air deflector helps prevent air from billowing up and lifting off the cover.
