looking at buying and just curious if people have seen it

thirdgen 04-09-2012 11:11 PM

Details about car setup and how much $$$...
I'd say "it looks decent", but it actually doesn't.
Post details and I'll tell you if it's a rip off or not.

eppic 04-09-2012 11:15 PM

well i don't wanna give off to much info. (preventative from it being sold to someone other then me)

i know my fair share around a miata. i'm just curious if anyone knows anything about it.
it's a good deal for whats in it. paint is new (within the last 6 months) it's a 99 that was white and was an auto but is now blue and have a 6-speed. lots of work done to the car

Track 04-10-2012 09:12 AM

looks very similar to phrenetiks car. I would remove the spacer asap or get new wheels, that second picture looks god-awful.

What are you asking anyway?

eppic 04-10-2012 09:29 AM

well i've bought many cars over the internet so i've just found merit in trying to find out info about the car before i buy.

anyone know the guy that owns it (unlikely but its a chance)
seen how it's been driven?
quality of parts or reliability of things?

i don't know. maybe i'm just excited about this car and want to have an excuse to show it off before i even own it. (my bad)

jtpaintballwdp 04-10-2012 11:02 AM

I know my self, for a car that has a bunch of work done to it, I would never buy it with out going to drive it first... I made that mistake once, and will likely never do it again. Doesn't matter how it looks in pictures, or how it "drives" on paper.

That's just me though.

Track 04-10-2012 11:05 AM

well the hood and hardtop are chaser parts, they most likely don't fit like OEM and the top could leak depending on the quality of work the owner invested in getting the weather stripping lined up right.

You can see a small intercooler out front, is it supercharged or turbo'd? You can tell the quality on that from the parts they use.

I personally wouldn't buy it if it doesn't have a WB and EMS...Unless I know the owner very well.

agreed. i just live very far away from the car and can't really drive it. (it's a chance i have to take)

how bout this setup. good or bad? looks ugly in my opinion

Meh, Dosen't look any thing special to me, but im also not a fan of SCs (at least not on the Miata). Looks like its got Tein coilovers? What is he using for engine managment?

MF-Brain 04-10-2012 11:22 AM

EW! centrifugal SCing is a joke.

almost as funny as that wheel/tire/offset combo.

eppic 04-10-2012 11:26 AM

it's got a fm voodoo controller for injector control (so i'm told) I have an EMU that i was going to use in a different but changed my mind and i would throw in here if that has any merit

i'm not a fan of the centrifugal either. id sell it and do something better.

Track 04-10-2012 11:27 AM

if its cheap and he used proper EMS and tuning (ie the car is running safe), I think its not a bad buy. You can sell most of the supercharger junk off and get a turbo and drop it in place! you will already have most of the piping done and it looks like he has an oil line going down past the thermostat (another thing to check too).

One thing that really annoys me is the rivits on the front bumper. What the ---- was he thinking there?

its a half cage. which is a bit ironic considering the stock passenger seat and the full carpeted interior!

The tie rods are for doooriiiifto!

Car has/had abs. And it has non-stock knuckles i think.

I wouldn't eliminate it, but I would definitely not plan to pick it up as a daily.

it urks me when i car looks so nice on the outside, then utter crap on the inside.

it has pluses for sure. but those pictures show three different wheels and body styles.

comes with the rims in the first picture.
hard top has oem latches up top and is bolted on the side.
for the price of the car, like i said, it's a good deal.

not knowing the price and just looking at the pictures, what would you think the price of the car would be? gives me a more accurate sense of actually a good deal or me just wanting it to be a good deal

MF-Brain 04-10-2012 12:51 PM

sportmaxxes look okay. too bad not the u6ls.

I like the tiens and the custom tie rod ends.

just needs a real man's power adder and a real man's engine managment.

RedTurboMiata 04-10-2012 01:16 PM

it has potiential and i would put it in the 6-8k range.

thirdgen 04-10-2012 11:20 PM

I was waiting until this thread filled up with responses to give my response.
Without reading the description, It appears to be a VF engineering centrifugal supercharger...but with a voo-doo box? That's bad news.
The paint sucks...the shifter sucks, the whole interior sucks, the flares suck, the stance sucks...the car is just so wrong in so many ways.
I wouldn't pay more than $3k for it, and if I did buy it, it would become more gutted than it already is, and it would be built strictly for the track.
There's my 2 cents...keep the change.

MF-Brain 04-11-2012 08:35 AM

he took the tiens out. that's a shame.

eppic 04-11-2012 08:43 AM

ya he said the coilovers on it now will save my butt for the trip home to canada. (i still would of liked the teins.)

MF-Brain 04-11-2012 08:59 AM

teins are not harsh whatsoever.

its really up to you about the car, i know two turboed NBs I'd buy first.

eppic 04-11-2012 09:07 AM

as bad of a design as the supercharger is, it's still something i can sell to put that money towards a different power adder. for the same price... i agree that the blue '99 is not as in good shape, but being the mechanic guy that i am, i start to go crazy if i don't have something to work on. So projects are right up there for me. (thats why i have my current miata) the reason i want the blue '99 is becuase it's pretty much where i wanted to take my current miata but... it's just someone else funded that process, so in the long run it's saving me money.

baron340 04-11-2012 08:49 PM

Hmm, sorry about that. Somehow I managed to post that before getting the message on there. I figured you would have better luck finding information if someone knew the guy from the other forum. I had just looked at that ad before coming over to this forum. I must've missed the part about not posting links to other miata forums, I'm sure the mods will delete it if it's an issue.

eppic 04-12-2012 01:16 PM

ok so i'm very close to buying this car. things are looking positive.
however for my drive back home to canada, i would LOVE to have the factory hood as well. I'm a crazy man and have little fear of things.
my question is, can i strap the factory hood to the roof to bring it home? wind resistance will be in question as well as the worry of catching a gust of wind and it catching the hood causing it to tear off the roof. thoughts?

thirdgen 04-12-2012 11:00 PM

I really hope you're not going to pay $8500 for that. I understand you really like it and all, but there is way more better put together miatas for less money.
Seriously...
That price is 3rd gen RX7 territory, not all jacked up miata pricing.
