NB (1998-2005) NB Miata discussion within. In 1998, Mazda released the second-generation MX-5, production code NB, for the 1999 model year.

What did you do to your NB today?

I have the noisy endlinks myself.

Can you feel a difference in the handling like you had hoped?

I haven't had any time to really test it out yet and push it. I'm not mechanically inclined, so anytime I install something new, it takes me a long time to trust what I've done. Since installing the oil cooler at the same time, that's been my first priority. All I know is that I tried following the "no rear bar" setup with my Tein Flex 7/6 for a while and I didn't like the feel. I'm probably totally wrong and it's likely not the optimal setup for me, but the feedback felt numb and a little on the understeer side of things.

With free time to myself this Sunday, I bit the bullet and pulled off my aftermarket, Roadster Sport II exhaust. Even with the additional baffle, it was pretty loud combined with the Supercharger. The little engine work I had done last year to deshroud the valves and adding another 1psi seems to have pushed me just over the edge of tolerable. I'll wear a single ear plug in my right ear to reduce ringing even when just driving to work, and I've seen little kits hold their hands over their ears if I pass by.

At least with an SC, dynos are showing no benefit with a larger, aftermarket exhaust until you're over 230-240rwhp, and I'm nowhere near that. I looked at the Racing Beat Power Pulse, which was supposed to be the quietest of the aftermarket exhausts. In the end I didn't feel like throwing in lots of money for nothing. So I looked for a used OEM exhaust.

Interestingly, I found a used MSM exhaust that was the cheapest. It didn't occur to me that they'd actually be different than the non-Mazdaspeed exhausts but I'm very happy with it. Nice and quiet, until I punch it, and has a slightly deeper tone, but still sounds "Roadstery". There's a little burble in there too I wasn't expecting. I did notice though, that the exhaust sits a tiny bit lower than a stock, non-Mazdaspeed exhaust. It's not a deal breaker, but just enough for a Miata enthusiast to look twice. Anyone else probably wouldn't even notice. It must be because of they had to design around the MSM rear lip.

There is a box and a red search button in the middle of the top of this page.

Or you could start with an intro thread in the "Meet and Greet" section and just happen to mention a little about your issue after telling us about you and your car.

Not a whole lot recently, but gave it a light detail today. Hardtop added for the bitter, California winters. It's 72 today!
