Y8S, is that your setup? If so, I've never seen it, but I like it. OP...do that, cause it's full of win. As far as a mild boosted setup goes, I'd say that the only gauges you need aside from whats already in your dash are: Wide Band O2 and a vacuum/boost gauge, just don't get carried away. The only reason I say to stay away from a pillar pod is because pillar pods remind me of every ricer that drives around with a B series civic with a fart can and an air intake. They all have pillar pods with gauges, but the question is, what do you need the gauges for? I am all about functionality. If you have a gauge, it better be there for a reason, not for show. Pillar pods were designed to mount gauges in a place that was easy to see, and also a place that was kind of a wasted space. Pillar pods are a postive add on that is given a negative vibe because there are people who choose "show" over "go".

yeah that's my setup.

it's Defi gauges in white because they were the most awesome and closest match to stock.

I would recomend matching the car gauges to the Defi gauges, what I mean is on the pointers the defi is white with a orange arrow and the car has black and orange. It would look unique in my opinion.

I currently run a dual pillar pod from Flyin Miata and a set of XD-16 Innovate gauges from BEGI. One programed to read boost and the other programed for the wideband read out. I DD my car and texas heat says you need all the A/C you can get. On top of that to keep out unwanted visitors I put up 2.5% tint so no one sees the gauges but me.

I have an NA so take my with a grain of salt, but I have a WB and a boost guage both in the center vents and am not bothered from a lack of climate control. I think instead of loosing two vents worth of air the remaining two make up by flowing more. I'm definitely saticefied with the looks of the setup. Very subtle yet functional. On the same level as the speedo and tach.

Do you track the car at all? I am curious if its comfortable and easy to read the gauges in that position at a glance.

I haven't in a long time and then it wasn't many times.

the gauges have built in warning buzzers and lights though. and a record/playback function.

Yea, it was pretty nice but ended up not working out since I bailed on my build. I will be going into round 2 of this very shortly with a more bare bones method. Will post pics when I'm done.
