Several years ago I tested 1996 Miata with automatic. It was awful compared to my manual transmission Miata. Are the automatics of later years any better. I would like to get a car that my wife can drive when I am not using it.

I just purchased a 2008 touring model wit AT last week. This car only had 45k miles and that's why I bought it. Although I would have preferred the 6 speed manual, I have to say this Is the best execution of an AT mated to a 4cyl motor I've experienced. I will just be using it to commute and so far am very happy with it

I don't have any first hand knowledge of the automatic, but the fact that my wife can't drive a manual and has no interest in learning how, was one of many reasons why I bought the six speed! Now I don't have to worry about her driving it! No door dings, no curb rash... it don't get any better than this!

I just pick a 20 club automatic, it has plenty of get up and go, I choose this as I live in Los Angeles with terrible traffic.
