Default Blame Brain, he invited me...

Comin' here via MT and V8M.net.

I'll jus' recycle my newb post from those...
What? Recycling's good for the environment. Right? Right?

Hope you guys don't mind one of those 'I wanna v-8 my Miata' a-holes on here... I don't take up much room, and won't spend more than my allotted time in the bathroom. Maybe. Hide the booze though, you've been warned.

I've got the Linc Mark VIII dohc motor and engine management, the 3550, (that's a Tremec trans for those not familiar...) and the 8.8 irs rear that'll have to be re-worked to be suitable for the li'l car.
I figure I'll track down a junk Miata from the firewall forward to use for a mock-up. That'll save some costs and keep me from hacking a good car and having to fix that. At least 'till it's time to hack into one properly.

I've been into MoPars, Ford Foxbodies (Mustangs, also known as 'beer cans on wheels', and Thunderbird Turbocoupes), and a couple of mitsu pickups (more beer cannage).
Quite frankly, they've just been 'missing' something.
I don't know if it's the 'girls car' stigma or what.

Seriously, I want something that's fun, handles reasonably well, and has a better power-to-weight ratio using a mostly stock oem driveline.
I find the idea of the 'upward spiral' of costs and support for the stresses placed on a heavier vehicle to be unattractive anymore. I'm starting to realize the brilliance of Mr Chapman.

Well, that's my readers digest long version. When's dinner?

Keith

Default 4.6 dohc

Thanks guys, It's good to be here! Thx to Brain esp!

RedTurbo's dead-on in his assessment.
Previously to finding this:
I figured it would never fit.
My SN there is TheRumJumbie. The car owner/builder's SN is cmooredoc.

Regarding my having pics:
Unless you want to see pics of an old peeing-paint green Mark with very little interior, a trans in a shed and a NB that is still in a friend's possession (it's his DD.), I have no pics. Lame-o I know, I has no excoose...

My only concern at this point is the frame-rail/exhaust manni clearance. we'll cross that bridge when...
I'll only do this swap if it's not going to compromise the frame-rail integrity any more than a 5.0 or LS series swap.
Otherwise I've a couple o' spare 5.0's layin' 'round and a built T-5, but the power-curve on the Dohc is so docile compared to the 5.0.
It lacks the low-end grunt that the old pushrod 8's have, and power builds smoothly. At least, it does in the Mark, which weighs about 1000 pounds more than the Mx.
Less drive-line parts breakage is good.

I'm not a complete . Workin' on it though.
