Default Checkin' in from the Chi

Hey all, my name is Ryan and I am new to the forums. I snagged a '94 Miata off CL for $800.00 a few months ago. It was an unexpected purchase so it hasn't moved along as fast as I would like but there is no sense in rushing it to get it "done" before Winter so I am taking my time on it. I am new to Mazda, but not new to cars. I have owned two Nissan 240sx's and after I spun a bearing in my last 240 I was out of the game, sold it mad cheap to buy a daily, and was looking for something different and the Miata's potential grew on me.

My new project is a Red 1994 with 5 Speed Transmission and a 1.8L Engine with ~ 181,000 miles on it:

It has had alot of TLC since I bought it:

I can get carried away with these things so if you're interested in some more information feel free to ask and I will follow it up!

Word of strong advice, do not weld a miata diff just A. see if you have the torsen lsd B. add the torsen lsd. the torsen is postive when it needs to be and wont break like welded diffs.

RTM, I know for a fact my Miata has an open differential and people in my area want $700-$900 for a Torsen swap. For not too much more then that I can get an aftermarket LSD. I ran a successful welded differential in my 240sx, which wasn't even professionally done, for over 5 years and I have other friends who are still running them hard too. I am confident enough that my 100hp Miata will hold up okay.

He was asking $1000, i wanted $750 but settled on $800. It's okay, I sold the Air Conditioning System for $100 profit, so i made some back. For what i'll be using it for, it's a perfect find.

Then you are definitely drivable distance from a couple of us members up here in Gurnee. DieselMiata and I are neighbors and Schadenfruede is also up here.
