you can do it on the cheap, buy used parts from members on forums. miataturbo.net is a good resource for information and parts.

Mine isn't a kit. After you install a Megasquirt and get it running you only need a few key items if you are interested in doing this on the cheap. Source some good used injectors that will drop in like rx7 460cc's ($50-100?) and send them to Deatschwerks to get them cleaned ($80).

Then find a good used turbo manifold for cheap ($200) or build one. Stay away from the cheap ebay manifolds because sometimes they can only last a week. Then decide on size of turbo and shop for one. Some of the cheap Chinese turbos on ebay are very reliable and well built. The one on my car was $250. Some guys have been running them for many years now.

Then you need oil fittings and lines, some intercooler piping (ebay kits for around $100 are fine), and a cheap Chinese intercooler for $100. Then build a downpipe or have someone make one (buy the outlet flange to fit your turbo ahead of time). My downpipe was done by the local muffler shop after I got the turbo mounted. Add a little elbow grease and, Voila! You just doubled your stock horsepower!

$3k isn't really bad for an entire kit. If you are clever and look out for deals on used kit, you could probably do it pretty cheap. Watch for deals on our sister forum miataturbo.net. It's also a wealth of knowledge when it comes to boost and DIY builds.

Im from a state with no emmissions as well. It makes me really sad to now live in illinoised and now have to emmissions test. Because of it, I will be installing mega squirt in parallel..... Someday.

And everything I said was redundant because I wasn't at the end of the thread. Yay me, sorry about that.

Well, Brain, the admin of this site, custom builds them for each year model and flashes them with the firmware and a base tune. The car will crank and run on the base tune. You just need to fine tune it to get a nice idle and a few other things. It is very intimidating but once you learn it and get used to it you wonder what the fuss was about.

His prices are great and the current models are very feature rich.
