Newb from WI

Well, I haven't exactly jumped ship from cr (I'm a little concerned about what will become of it since it is the miata forum where I have been most active besides years of lurking at m.net), but I got an invite and figured I come over here and join up anyway. I know some of you from cr and you may know me as the guy who has been working on the fastback for quite a while. I have a currently stock 99 NB, a NB roller and also share a NA with my father.
Are there and sponsor/vendor plans in the works here? If I sign up to be a sponsoring vendor over at MT am I cool here as well? I dont want to ----- out my wares where it isn't welcome. I'm also a bit partial to the idea of a smaller closer knit forum community where I can throw around my very unprofessional opinions from time to time as just another member ;)

Welcome, jj_warhorse!

Welcome to the forum Jesse! You are certainly welcome here and we ENCOURAGE everyone to share their opinion in any form as they see fit. So don't hesitate, I think we all know how to take a joke anyway!

Post up some pictures of your car and Contact Rick and/or Braineack about sponsorship information. Unfortunately, last I heard we are currently not accepting sponsors, but with permission I am sure they would let you show people what you are hiding.

Hey! Welcome welcome!

In the next 2 weeks I should have pictures of the first production bare gelcoat top... basically what people can expect to take delivery of. Then I'll have pictures of it painted BRG to match the customers car and installed by the end of the month.

flying_solo 01-09-2012 02:29 PM

Look forward to seeing it. I'm a big fan of the fastback look on the miatas. Do the folks you demo on get a discount? :) Because GB, isn't that far away.

RedTurboMiata 01-10-2012 10:55 AM

looking good, cant wait to see a finished painted version.

jj_warhorse 01-10-2012 12:58 PM

It shouldn't be much longer then a week from now.

RedTurboMiata 01-10-2012 02:11 PM

you should start a build thread, and update with the shop work you've been doing. not just one car but your shop as a whole.
Ps: did rick ever get back to you?

jj_warhorse 01-10-2012 02:18 PM

I plan on starting a build thread for my personal car eventually, but right now I have zero funds to get started on it. It will be pretty wild.
Yes, I'd also like to start a general thread for Warhorse projects and products... probably NB flares, hood and NA fastback first.
I haven't contacted rick directly yet.

RedTurboMiata 01-10-2012 02:23 PM

i would recomend jumping on that fairly quick. MF Rick or MF Brain are who your wanting to talk to.

flying_solo 01-10-2012 09:42 PM

Paint gets a little more complicated as it depends on schedules. My "day job" is at a shelby mustang parts and restoration shop and cobra builder/dealer. Whatever I/we can't do ourselves, we have several very good people/shops that we work with that can do it. They are usually quite busy, but I can sneak stuff in from time to time.
For example, this first top is getting color matched (customer sent in gas door) with a Dupont camera system and sprayed in a 250k downdraft climate controlled booth just down the road from me ... but I have to bring it in completely prepped so the shops owner just has to pull the trigger on the gun after hours and I must pick it up the next morning. I can get great results for good prices, but it all comes down to timing and I may not always be able to fit it in. Painting will likely be an unadvertised option that we address case by case.

Mazduh 01-11-2012 06:44 PM

Hey Jesse, have you heard of the shop Beyond redline in Green Bay? What's your opinion?

Maikeru 01-13-2012 01:23 AM

Late welcome from another CR.net guy.

BTW, just a suggestion. You should switch to a 3rd brake light from a Miata, or maybe a 6th gen Toyota Celica. The one you have on there almost looks like its from a trailer?

Mazduh 01-13-2012 08:49 AM

I'm sure that's just there to be there... Probably not the final product.

We used the OEM brake light originally, but strayed away from it because it complicated the install procedure, especially from people who would plan to use the top seasonally and need to swap out the stock trunk lid more often. We are now ditching the mid-trunk light for an LED strip that mounts inside the top of the rear window.
