Official Beer of the Day Thread.

I got a PM that says we need to step it up. This is my contribution.
I bought a Weyerbacher "Big Beers" variety pack on Sunday. Weyerbacher is brewed in Easton, PA. The variety pack consists of Old Heathen Stout, Blithering Idot Barley wine (11.1% abv), Merry Monks Ale, and Double Simcoe IPA. I've had the Double Simcoe before and thought it was absolutely amazing. Last night I drank a Blithering Idiot while I scarfed some suicide wings. I wasn't too impressed. I guess I just don't favor Barley Wines. Right now I am drinking my 3rd "Merry Monks Ale". It reminds me of a slightly sour version of Fransiskaner Heffeweisen or Troeg's Dreamweaver wheat beer. It's pretty good. It's 9.3% abv, and it's treating me right at this very moment. I have off this Friday, so stay tuned for more fermented indulgence!

Call me lame, but all the beers I go out and try are great an all. But I always come back to a tall glass of Blue Moon and an orange. Just my favorite drink.

Hey, it's cool. I love to drink all those craft beers, but I still like to party with Keith Stone; if you know what I mean.

on draught at the local beer haus the other night.

I love having a nerdy beer garden and haus across the street.

Last night on the way home I almost stopped and had an

but figured I had to try to get my new 949 endlinks on and went straight home. This was unfortunate because I didn't get my endlinks installed and all that was in the fridge was leftover

that a friend left behind. I almost made a cocktail but got lazy and popped open a Natty instead. It was a big day at work after I had a few days off at the end of last week for vacation so I was too tired to make a cocktail. :p

Awwww yeah! Southern Tier! That place makes outstanding beer. I recently had their "Mokah". I think that's how it was spelled. It was a mix of their jahva and chokolat (coffe stout mixed with chocolate stout). It was amazing, and I think it was like 10.8% abv or something?
If you like IPA's try Southern Tier 2X IPA. It's one of my favorite IPA's.

thirdgen 08-16-2011 10:08 AM

Holy crap! Old Rasputin! I just had that 2 weeks ago. It was a 2010 barrel on nitrogen, f 'n amazing!

y8s 08-16-2011 11:21 AM

I had a choice between drafts of old rasputin and the jah va.

sixshooter 08-16-2011 11:45 AM

I will be looking for the jah va on your recommendation.

y8s 08-16-2011 01:16 PM

I didn't say I recommended it. I just said I had it. It's a bit overwhelming and about as opposite as you can get from easy drinkin'.

but if you like tough stouts with a hint of coffee...

Mazduh 08-16-2011 03:46 PM

There's this place local to me that brews their own stuff. It's called 3 Floyds. I really like their Apocalypse Cow ale. http://www.3floyds.com/our-beers-2/

It's 1:51 AM and everytime I click on "New Posts" it says there aren't any. Here's one...
Weyerbacker Double Simcoe IPA. This is where it's at. I strongly suggest indulging in this greatness.

Get a day job?

RedTurboMiata 08-17-2011 09:30 AM

Always enjoyed Landshark and lime.

thirdgen 08-18-2011 12:22 AM

Weyerbacher Blithering Idiot. It's a Barley Wine, 11.1% ABV. I'm not a barley wine fan, so I had to wash it down with a Double Simcoe IPA. It was very strong and bitter, and "not my bag, baby."

I just got a case of Dundee Brewery's Irish Red as a gift from my father. It's a red lager and not a red ale but still tastes pretty creamy for a lager. Even though it is lighter in body than an ale it retains a nice malty richness and sweetness that is nice.

I never had the Irish Red Lager from Dundee. I had their variety pack a while ago, and I felt that for the price, it was a great selection of beers. I think it cost around $30-$35 for the case?

sixshooter 08-18-2011 04:09 PM

$8 a case on base at the Class 6 store when it was on "freight sale." They heavily discount beer when it has been there awhile.

Old Rasputin Russian Imperial stout. Nothing more needs to be said.

y8s 10-03-2011 09:06 AM

picked up some pilsener glasses at the world market over the weekend.

they were necessary to help me through a case of Victory Prima Pils. This is my go-to pils.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. Sometimes the jones is strong.

I tried a locally brewed Russian imperial stout from Cigar City Brewing Co. called Marshal Zhukov's Imperial Stout. She is thick and sweet, almost too thick, with the natural bitterness kept in check nicely by the malt. This is heavier than Rasputin by a pretty good stretch. It almost would be a dessert sipping beer if there was such a class. It has heavy coffee and chocolate notes in it's profile.

Yes, the head is that dark and thick. Go ahead, enlarge the pic.

It is only available in the big bottles. 750ml, I think.

thirdgen 10-03-2011 05:44 PM

I have yet to try any cigar city products, but I feel I'm missing out as they all sound amazing.
