Make friends with a Spec Miata race team and see if they will give you their used race tires for free or cheap. Once they aren't good enough to be competitive anymore the tires are typically discarded, but will still have enough tread for you to use for a few trackdays. They will still be stickier than street rubber and will give you an edge.

 

I was offered to use someones hoosiers that day but i declined. I enjoy street tires and its rewarding getting laptimes close to what real racecars run. When i lived in Cali there were competitions that specified the use of street tires. I found it funny when you have guys in street tires running faster times than guys with Rcomps and a slightly more liberal mod list.

For me its all about driver progression and i feel im still not ready to move up to Rcomps/slicks and still need to improve before i make that move.
