After many years racing Spec Miata myself and many other racers have had the dreaded down pipe nut seize. When this happens at the track, like when changing out a transmission, it can be a real pain. If you use a new nut from Mazda, every time, you may be spared this. The nut is non JIS as it is 14 mm hex with a 10 X 1.5 thread. It is Stainless steel (soft) and moly coated. The nut is short and the exposed thread makes it very difficult to remove and the exposed threads invite seizing, especially if used for racing or Turbo application. The fix is a 14mm Hex, 10 X 1.5mm Brass Flange Nut. The brass will not seize to the SS stud, the 14mm hex is small and the 19mm length covers the threads and make removal and install very easy. No more problems at the track, well worth it for anyone that removes these nuts often.
