I am surprised. Considering they come from the land of race(ing), they should be pretty good.

we should petition for a renaming to slamland instead of raceland. then again, I think people slam their cars because of inspiration from racing.

I wonder if being a mod requires me to maintain political correctness? I would like to make more jokes about slamland. in very perverted and gay ways.

I do appreciate the answers now let me ask this do all 99 miatas come with the Bilsteins or only some of them ?
bigx5murf your post finally convinced the wife to let me trade the wheels if I can find something similar in 15's
Most of the roads here in Texas are good,we have been known to hit a few dirt/rock roads with ruts and dips in them so that is a given it would be a rougher ride and maybe a little drag here and there.
I want to keep it at least with the ride height from the factory wheels would be or a little higher . I know it came with 14's so 15's would not be that much more of a height problem
Since it is a just drive and see th enighborhood and not an autocross or any kind of event car then maybe just a regular set of shocks back on it would be fine

^No, not all 99 miatas had Bilsteins. it came with the sport package (and 2 other minor special packages). btw, Sport package is actually the "Hard S" suspension, while the Sport Suspenion is the package that adds the 15" wheel w/ 195/50 size tires (as opposed to 14" wheels with 185/55 tires).

You can very easily tell if you have the Bilsteins by the color of the shock.

Thanks Track, I knew that you could go by color just did not know if I could find them on any of the 99 year. Thanks sixshooter for mentioning them. At our age we probably will not be able to tell the difference in a Bilsteins ride or fuggie yugge special
Just thought once I decided to do the shock replacement it would not hurt to have a few ideas
.
I see where they come adjustable by the time I got through crawling around and trying to do different adjustments I would be worn out so what ever they are at from the get go that is most likely where they would stay even if adjustable
I had no idea that shocks/struts /springs were so expensive and could do so many different things
I was thinking go up buy a pair of 29.99 do whats and away we go so maybe need to spring for some 49.95 do withs instead
My time is quickly running out so what you guys say is a lot of help
Most of you I see are into a more of an aggressive period of your life and yet the ideas that you throw out are good for anyone to at least look at or kick around
Thanks for the help and will keep reading in the mean time

^Bilsteins are good because they fit a wide range of spring rates. They are NON-adjustable, so you won't have to worry about adjustement. the Bilstein Sports are the same as the HDs, just shorter for stiffer springs (and there for less free length). I would say you can't go wrong with Bilsteins, they will require a lot less messing with and you can be sure when you buy 4 shocks, that they will be close enough in behavior to put them all together.

As for your spring rates, you can always buy one of the common packages around, like FM springs/RB springs/whatever. Or if you are feeling particularly courageous, visit summitracing and pick out some spring rates of your own. depending on the rates, you will want to pick a proper spring length. Since you want to stay with something reasonable (seems like you are just spirited daily driver and possibly the occasional autocross for fun), I would probably stick with the FM springs

I personally think the RB springs are junk...or at least I don't see an application for them.
