Made it out this weekend. I was in town and the weather was great so I enjoyed the new rear end. Everything has been great- Gears are nice and normally spaced, my freeway pulls feel much stronger and I'm not sitting at 4400 on the freeway anymore.

The Flyin Miata Clutch is still holding strong and I can't really say enough good things about it. Great engagement, not too heavy and overall I'm extremely happy with the performance. Kudos once more to the guys at FM.

Some friends of mine moved into a shop so I stopped by to check it out. Cool concept- Live in the shop type of situation.

During my travels I ran into DirtyTurbo -

A couple of cool shots with the toys while I was at the shop. My friend has some good taste in color schemes too..

Picked up some new parts for a weekend project. Heat has been an issue in the past so in prep for some upcoming track events I've decided to be a bit pro-active.

My eBay radiator fan will likely do just fine but It's fan/shroud setup is lacking.

Picked up myself the Mishimoto fan/shroud setup. It's affordable looks great and will certainly do the job. Miatas don't make the best parts vehicles...

Here was the previous setup, a couple of fans strapped to the rad:

Gave me some room but didn't do much for pulling heat:

This is actually how excited I get about new parts:

The setup looks pretty nice. Bigger motors on the fans and it came with the install hardware and materials:

Installation was not super easy. It took a bit to get the shroud down in there without uninstalling every thing around it. I probably should have just saved myself the grief and pulled my radiator out.

I also picked up a couple of other goodies:

New radiator cap- Old one was sitting in oil for a minute at one point and the seals were about shot from expansion.

Mishimoto power steering reservoir. The old one was just fine but I plan to relocate this at some point.

Some 1.5 inch t bolts to replace the worm style clamps on my rad hoses. Unnecessary but nice to have.

Everything installed:

The next step was brakes. Found out later in the game that I have the "Sports Suspension" package. This means my Rotors, calipers and pads are all larger than the standard setup. This also unfortunately means that nobody stocks the rotors.

My choice of parts:
  • HAWK HPS Pads front and rear
  • Replacement BS rotors
  • Magic Hat #9 Beer

Sourced the pads from someone online:

Pulled her in and got to work: A buddy decided to join me by wrenching on his evo. White cars for the win.

The install went pretty smooth. I ended up replacing the passenger front wheel bearing. There was some play and I had noticed some noise while rolling but brushed it off as tire/road noise.

New wheel bearing (hence the new studs) and my brakes were done. I sprayed the hats so they don't rust and look like crap in a week.

Bedded them in and we were all set.

Holy Mishimoto, the only thing you didn't buy is their gold heat tape!

If you really can't stand those Sport Brakes, I can help you out:

Option one: Trade me cars
Option two: Trade me brakes
Option three: Upgrade to the 4 wheel big brake kit to counter that heavy go fast pedal and donate your brakes to me.

Any of these are superb ideas.

Just recently I've been considering options to increase power. The car doesn't really need it but as men, who make calculations using a method deemed "Racers Math", we always want more.

My torque falls off a bit near the end of my power ban and it's just no fun. I've considered the Honda manifold solution but it's just a bit too messy and quite frankly, I'd like something that has been specifically tuned and developed for a forced induction BP motor..

From what I've picked up, BEGi might be the only company that has done their homework on an intake manifold for the BP motors. So I'll be installing one of these:

On top of the performance gains, it's quite a bit lighter than the stocker. Should have this guy in the next couple of weeks.

The one pictured. What would you expect my results to be?

Isn't there a dude out of CA making custom Intake Mani's for Forced Induction Miatas. He's a racer as well. My memory sucks, I've been drain bramaged by too much fighting. I know he's on MiataTurbo and has some sexy sexy manifolds.
