Chicago Roll Call!

Wow awesome! Wait, where you working the grid and wearing a yellow shirt?
I got second in A/D behind what I think was a boosted miata with :54.5xx. I shaved 3 seconds off in my last 3 runs. Pretty sure I could have hit 52 with a good launch and little faster slalom as well as harder around the last big right. First time doing autox and I enjoyed it. I like road racing more, but this was a lot of fun.

I waved at you several times when gridding.
Very interesting. You slammed her in first several times. I saved time by leaving it in second, maybe the difference in our motors and rear ends comes into play. First time I really felt my open diff holding me back as well. I cant wait to experiment more next time there. I won't be at the June 3rd event as I will be at Gratan Raceway with NASA. But I do plan to do the next couple after that.

Thanks! feel free to jump in if you're resting during my run group next time you're there.
I think on my fastest I only downshifted for the first garage. Are you using a 5spd or a 6spd? I definitely need to get out the track, I have my track pads, new rotors, brake lines and brake fluid sitting in the living room. I just need to put that on and register for an event and then hopefully I can get some tips from you. I haven't done any track events yet.

Register for Gratan. I'll be towing mine up and have all my tools in the Truck. We could put them on Friday night or early Saturday morning. You can then bed them properly in your first session. You got XP8s if I remember you saying once like me correct? If so I hope you got a set of rotors as well.
Me and a few others are going to be camping at the track.

WCMC event 5/20
I missed much of the discussion here regarding autox with WCMC.
I was at the 5/20 event and it was my first time behind the wheel at an autocross. I should have been in class A/D but I didn't realize what the "A" meant.
No matter. I am here to learn to drive not win trophies.
My car is #460, and my best time was 58.190". I will keep an eye out for you all this summer.
I am looking for suggestions on tires actually. I am running 400 treadwear all seasons right now and I feel it is really holding me back. I plan on upgrading next year to 6ULs with RS3s, but I am interested in what you all think I should use for the remainder of the year as a combination daily driver tire and track tire.
I daily drive my Miata about 20k miles a year, and I hope to have my tires last at least one full year. Here are the basics:
The rims are 16x6.5"
Star Specs run 205/50-16
Kuhmo Ecsta XS run 215/45-16
The Kuhmos specify a 7-8" range for wheel width.
The Star Specs are a half inch taller than the Kuhmos.
Which do you think would be an overall better tire for my use?
Alternatively, there are some BFGoodrich Comp-2s that are an exact fit for the OEM tire at 205/45-16, but they are a 320 treadwear tire.
What do you all say?

I run on 205/50/15 Star Specs and they're a great all around tire. Very good wear on them also. The XS perform well in heat but they suffer in the wet and aren't as responsive compared to the Star Specs if I remember GRM tests correctly. That size seems a bit tall, I've always ran 15s so I have no experience with the taller tires. Frank is running 225/50/16 on his MSM and the sidewalls are huge.
