Heat cycling fatigue, I guess. It did have 138,xxx miles on it, and the last 10k was done with a fair amount of track days mixed in.

Angry 3700 and horrified in Royalston

Took the 94 for a spin tonight ran nicely. reduced weight substanially with lighter wallet. Spent 575 for iming belt, 2800 for brain, igniter, coils, alternator, and air bag thing. poor house isn't far, who is the silly optimist that thinks these things are reliable? Not suicidal cause no internet in hell, I think.

Timing belt $18, ECU $free if you use the forums as a resource. ECU $100 all day long if all you can do is google Search Results

YOUR MECHANIC IS SCREWING YOU! I've said it to you before and you haven't listened so you get what you allow yourself to get. I would definitely go back to that mechanic again. I'm sure he doesn't think you are a sucker and a cash cow.

These cars are dirt cheap to maintain if you aren't completely helpless.

I have two ECUs in my garage that you could have for the price of shipping alone, and know where there are a dozen more at the same price. Use your resources. There is a free market out here. You are not tied to a union contract and extortionist pricing. You have a choice.

@CaptainBwana, was this your first time putting on a new top? Mine's starting to show it's age, Sealant and rubber patches can only work for so long.

I just picked up a riveter, how long did this take you?

Mornin' Red. It took me about four hours actual work. There was a lot of stopping to refer to the supplied directions and to the threads on the boards about this project. Plus I took the time to sand and paint the retaining clips holding the rain rail in place. They were corroded and I decided to clean them up.

In all, it took about eight hours working by myself. Having a second set of hands would have been a big help, but my days off did not match with anyone I trust with my car.

The whole process is pretty simple, just open the box, and go. It is much easier with the seats out of the car. Overall, the results were very satisfying.

Plan on it taking a whole weekend. When you get it done in less than a day, go for a drive the second day.

I traded a spare transmission for a ported and polished cylinder head.
