Hey all
I'm not a newbie as far as owning a Miata. I have a 1991 NA, that I purchased back in 1999 w/67K on odometer, now has 107K miles. It needed some basic body work when I bought it, took care of that and it been a daily driver since. A big rotten pecan tree limb broke of and smashed the passenger side nose cone and barn door light and also punched 7 small holes in viynl top, which was at the point of needing to be replaced any way.
I'm at the point, whether to sell or fix . I lucked out and came across a 96, that had been in an accident, the owner had to have be devastated because it had what looked to be a high end black on black paint job, new seats and carpets, chrome after market rims, all good, same with tires. He left it at a body shop and don't know the details, whether he consigned car to them or what. Got the price info, they said he wanted $1,000. If you just start parting the car at it's worth more than that. Vinyl Roof looks brand new and it's easier to swap tops out that are on the frames than putting new viynl skin on it. That has to be worth $400-$500 in itself (much more retail). I couldn't get the hood open to see if engine was damaged but it looked like it rear ended a SUV or pickup and the front end slid under and hit the windshield. I expect maybe radiator damage but expect engine to be okay. I think the asking price is a good price but I'd offer $500-600 and go from there. Need to get a good look at engine. If I get a chance next week I'll post picks of my 91' and the wrecked 96' between the two cars I could come out with my '91 fixed(new top, another set of tires and rims and eventually have engine rebuilt if needed, see if my a/c compressor will take a charge).
