Welcome to the forum!

The 1.6 rear diff won't handle much abuse and certainly won't hold a turbo, so plan to upgrade.

Any plans to take it to the track? Or tumble off the road on the side of Sandia Peak?

If you have a 1.8 rear end already then you are fine. And I wouldn't worry much about a LSD. These cars don't make enough power to need them on dry pavement unless you add a turbo. But in the snow, you might want one. The LSD isn't very difficult to add to your 1.8 diff if you have experience wrenching. Any 94-05 Miata with leather seats and power mirrors will have an LSD you can use.
