I really thought i would break the things before gettin them loose

That was a nightmare.. I actually used a cpl of small screwdrivers and a small coin. depressed tab with one screwdriver, had the other one to the side and put a small coin under the other side and give it hell...

I really thought I would break them before they let loose.. once one unclicked I left a coin so it wouldnt click back in place, then went onto the next one around the corner, not to the opposite side..

Hope that helps. found no simple solution for it

Well, I broke two of the little nibs that help hold the ring on. So, I just decided to buy two new ones from Rosenthal Miata Parts. I'm in the process of updating my console anyway with a new double DIN radio and new wood dash trim. When I bought the car years ago, it had a wood dash trim that became brittle and eventually was partially torn off when I loaned the car to a friend.

Sad thing is, he never mentioned it to me.
